Canada: Police seek copper bandits

MONTREAL – The rising price of metals is being cited as the motive for a robbery in Montreal.

Police are looking for two thieves who hijacked a tractor-trailer Sunday night and stole what police estimate was at least 1,000 kilograms of copper.

The price of raw copper has more than doubled since 2004, selling Monday at $8.51 U.S. a kilogram. The value of a 1,000-kilogram haul on the open market could be $8,500. More from Canada.com
