Wausau Company Will Lay Off 340 Workers

WH Transportation of Wausau says it will lay off 340 workers in Wisconsin, Ohio, and Georgia. The company blames rising fuel costs for the move. It says it will also end its Van Freight business after July.

The focus now becomes delivering housing materials for sister companies Wausau homes and sterling building systems.

A statement from the company’s co-owner says the Van Freight industry can’t raise its rates enough to cover rising fuel and other costs.

He says the company will reduce its staff in Wisconsin to 80 people after July.  From

Another casualty of high fuel prices.

  1. That’s too bad. We had a company here locally that ran a service at truck stops for trucks so that they could turn off their engines at night. It had heat, air, internet, etc. Somehow it never caught on and they just shut down. Seems like with fuel prices they could have made it.

My brother-in-law is a long haul trucker. I just can’t imagine what this busniness must be like right now. God speed to more oil.
