Canada – Number 2 in terror cell wanted out, court told

After losing faith in the alleged ringleader of a homegrown terror cell, the group’s second-in-command sent him electronic messages suggesting he was scared and wanted to back out of a terror plot, a Brampton court was told yesterday.

But the messages were a ruse intended to dupe the authorities as he pushed ahead with his own scheme involving truck bombs, said Mubin Shaikh, a police mole who infiltrated the Toronto 18.

Shaikh testified that the No. 2 guy began to lose faith in the ringleader’s abilities in January 2006, after being disappointed with the outcome of a so-called terrorist training camp held weeks earlier. More from
