Gas theft a ‘huge problem’ – Canada

From our friends in Canada:

Gas thief pleads guilty in court; gas station owner says problem getting out of hand

A man pleaded guilty yesterday in Moncton provincial court to two counts of stealing gas from the Irving Big Stop in Salisbury last year, and two Metro Moncton gas station owners say incidents of gas theft continue to be a “huge problem.”

Richard Racicot was accused of stealing gas twice in one week from the Big Stop. After initially hesitating to enter a plea yesterday morning in front of Judge Anne Dugas-Horsman, he eventually pleaded guilty to both charges.

Racicot stole $48.59 worth of gas on Dec. 23, 2007 and $40.04 worth on Dec. 28.

He was given nine months probation and ordered to pay restitution to the gas station. He is also banned from going to the Salisbury Big Stop.  From the Times Transcript
