Tropical Storm Edouard churns toward island

Published August 3, 2008

GALVESTON — Tropical Storm Edouard formed in the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday and could make landfall near Galveston by Tuesday morning, said forecasters with the National Hurricane Center in Miami. Edouard is the hurricane season’s fifth named storm. What had been a cluster of storms around a low-pressure system on Saturday was upgraded to a tropical depression Sunday afternoon and then to a tropical storm at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Forecasters expect the storm will strengthen.

The storm was hugging the Louisiana coast and moving west. A tropical storm watch was in effect from Port Arthur to Galveston.

John Simsen, the emergency management coordinator for Galveston County, said local emergency management officials were preparing for what could be a Category 1 hurricane when Edouard makes landfall. Mary Jo Nashke, the emergency management spokeswoman for the city of Galveston, said the city’s emergency operations center would open at 6 a.m. today.  More from Galveston Daily News

The lights are out… Commentary by JD Pendry

“I have always loved longitude. “I love latitude; it’s in the stars. But longitude, it’s about time. … Time and clocks and all the rest of that have always been a fascination for me.”

“I’m trying to save the planet; I’m trying to save the planet.” – Speaker of the People’s House, Nancy Pelosi

When the Speaker speaks, lights out is one descriptive thought that comes to mind. I also see hair filled with daisies and butterflies and chirping birds merrily circling her botoxed head. Occasionally a sharp tongue zots out and an unsuspecting and cheerfully circling blue dog bird is returned to the flock, wings bobbed and featherless. The hapless butterflies continue to flutter by focusing on matters critically important to the people of the serfdom like legalizing pot. Such is life in the enchanted kingdom where the problems are always caused by others, but never solved by anyone.

Out in the serfdom, visions of striding over rainbows have been replaced by the less lofty vision of mere survival. The serfs work hard to meet their tax obligations to the kingdom, the agents of the Imperial Revenue Service ensuring that every copper penny owed is collected. The serfs spend their spare time scouring the imperial woods for twigs to heat their homes as winter approaches. Mansions in the enchanted kingdom, where all is well, are warm and comfy. Children in the serfdom fall asleep at night with visions of life in Castle Algore. The cost of fuel is of no consequence to royalty. They cannot focus on such frivolous matters. What is important is that the knaves must be saved from themselves. They must be told what to eat, what mode of transport to use and how many twigs they may put into their fireplaces. The speaker of the enchanted kingdom reminds us, it’s in the stars. I’m trying to save the planet.  More from

The Tide Has Turned! Americans have illegals on the run!

William Gheen
Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC)

The illegal aliens and their supporters were dealt a massive political blow this past week, when our friends at the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) released Homeward Bound a new report showing an analysis of US Census data, which indicates that illegal immigration is reversing in America!

The ALIPAC Platform has been proven accurate. Our claim that we need to “Enforce our existing immigration laws” and focus on the four aspects of securing the borders, fining employers, removing taxpayer incentives, and empowering local police to enforce immigration laws, which will lead to a reversal of illegal immigration in America has been proven correct!

The CIS report concluded that more illegal aliens are leaving America than coming in due to increased enforcement of immigration laws. Their findings are that the illegal alien population in America has declined by 1.3 Million or 11% since last summer!

The illegal alien supporters were shocked and are attacking the report claiming that it is either not true, true but a bad thing, or the result of the bad economy, instead of enforcement. While our opposition was caught off guard, you can count on them coming back fast with a more cohesive strategy once the shock wears off.   More from ALIPAC

I would like to thank William Gheen and for a great radio program, for allowing me to visit with them on their new radio program, Last Americans Standing Show, on, to discuss blogging and AmericanTruckersAtWar.
