Police: Dallas shooting suspect had troubled past

DALLAS (AP) – Authorities in Texas and Utah say a former Utah state trooper suspected in a series of rush-hour shootings near Dallas had an addiction to painkillers, and he was wanted in connection with a recent robbery.

Dallas police think 37-year-old Brian Smith was responsible for at least one shooting death. They won’t talk about a similar killing in nearby Garland, which is out of their jurisdiction. Police say Smith fits the description of the man they were looking for.

Smith is on life support at a Dallas hospital after authorities say he shot himself in the head following a brief stand-off early yesterday.  Full story HERE

  1. Smith did not have a troubled past! He was hit by a drunk driver while giving a ticket during his tenure as a Utah State Trooper. As a result he needed pain medication. I think the issue is that doctors give anybody, anything! I knew Brian personally and this was not an act done by someone who was all there (due to the addiction to prescription meds). Too bad the media is too biased and loves a good cops turned bad, versus focusing on the real issue at hand. A good person leaving behind a wife and 5 children due to some asswipe doctor over prescribing!
