Caterpillar bringing new plant to Arkansas

Caterpillar Inc. announced Monday it will open a road grader plant in North Little Rock, where it will invest $140 million in its factory and hire 600 workers.

Equipment and training at the plant will be state-of-the-art, said facility general manager Jon Harrison. Work on refitting the former videotape and DVD production facility is to begin immediately, with production to start in 2010, he said.

Work will move from a plant in Illinois, which also makes mining equipment and needs to make room for extra production in that line, Harrison said. He said there would be no layoffs as a result of the Arkansas plant opening.  Full story HERE
