With the new administration nearly running out of ink signing this bizarre executive order and that outside-the-mainstream executive order, I have concluded that what is missing in President Obama’s program is good, middle-American common sense.
It is not surprising that a career politician – whose professional claim to fame is “community organizer,” which is nothing more than a dressed-up label for a Left-wing activist who seeks to revolt – has an agenda that defies such sensibility. As a mom concerned about her child’s future, a wife concerned about her husband’s job and a daughter of a legal immigrant who struggled, working two jobs, to raise five children without government assistance, I have a few suggestions for the new president. None of these will guarantee me a high ranking political appointment but they might bring this man back down to earth as we know it, here in the United States. U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill., is hoping to pass a firearm-licensing bill that will significantly rewrite gun-ownership laws in America.
Among the more controversial provisions of the bill are requirements that all handgun owners submit to the federal government a photo, thumb print and mental heath records. Further, the bill would order the attorney general to establish a database of every handgun sale, transfer and owner’s address in America.
The bill claims its purpose is “to protect the pubic against the unreasonable risk of injury and death associated with the unrecorded sale or transfer of firearms to criminals and youth.” More HERE

It isn’t just high fuel prices that worry Evan Stouten, president of Modular Transportation Inc. in Grand Rapids.
Modular and other Michigan trucking companiesface an additional cost posed by the new Michigan Business Tax. It’s a penalty on their use of independent owner-operators, who, in Stouten’s case, comprise about a third of his 150 drivers.
“It’s not a happy situation,” said Stouten, whose company and its affiliates bring in about $30 million in annual revenue.
The MBT surcharge on Michigan businesses has attracted the most heat from the business community and could be among the taxation issues lawmakers take up in the coming weeks.
But, “the big concern here from my carriers about the business tax is the nondeductability under the gross receipts tax,” said Walter Heinritzi, executive director of the Michigan Trucking Association in Lansing.
“Those carriers that use owner-operators as part of their business model are not able to deduct those payments to owner-operators as part of their gross receipts,” he said. More from MLive.com
Lawmakers know trucks have to run in order to keep the economy going so when they need funds, where do they go? The trucker. More taxes, more tolls, more fees…… They are going to drive us all out of business…

If you think that the high price of gas today is the fault of President Bush, and not due to the obstruction by Democrats of petroleum development over the past 30 years, then consider this: President Bush has asked Congress to approve oil drilling offshore and in ANWR, to try to hold down gas prices in every year of his administration. The Democrats in Congress have consistently blocked it, forcing more and more dependence on foreign oil.
In 1998, the Republican led congress passed legislation to allow drilling in ANWR. President Clinton, on the advice of Al Gore’s radical environmentalism, vetoed it.
For 30 years Republicans have been trying to achieve energy independence by expanding oil production to keep up with growing fuel demands, and allow licensing of new nuclear power plants to keep up with growing energy needs. In every case, these efforts have been blocked by Democrats in Congress. Continue reading
Just after 8:00 AM Friday morning in New York, a construction crane toppled from its 200 foot tower, crushed a portion of the penthouse across the street, and destroyed about half of the building’s balconies on it’s way to crashing to the ground. New York Mayor, Michael Bloomberg called the accident “unacceptable.” “What has happened is unacceptable and intolerable,” he said.
A New York City councilman is proposing the shut down of all construction cranes in New York City and asking for legislation to deal with the problem. Councilman, Tony Avella stated: “Every crane operation in the city needs to be shut down at this point until it’s fully inspected. We can’t keep putting people in jeopardy. And what has to happen is some real legislation, not just talk about it…”
This statement came less than one hour after I was talking with a work associate and told him to watch and see just how long it takes for some grandstanding politician to propose legislation to address the crane accident. It didn’t take long. The government’s response to every crisis is always the same. Pass more laws to further restrict the freedom and liberty of industry and the citizens. Continue reading
Excellent commentary by Glenn Beck.
Dave Eck, a Half Moon Bay mechanic, had attracted a media spotlight with his fleet of vehicles fueled by used fryer grease from a local chowder house. So when Sacramento called, he figured officials wanted advice on promoting alternative fuels.
Not at all. The government rang to notify Eck that he was a tax cheat. He was scolded for failing to get a “diesel fuel supplier’s license,” reporting quarterly how many gallons of grease he burns, and paying a tax on each gallon.
“All of a sudden they nailed me for a road tax,” said Eck, who drives a Hummer converted to run on vegetable oil. “I said, ‘Not a problem. I’ll do my part. But what do I get? At least let me into the carpool lane.’ ” More from the LA Times
Obviously our fuel problem is not “Big Oil”, but “Big Government”. Eck came up with a viable solution to the high cost of fuel and was immediately hit with Big Taxes!
A conservative congressman from Georgia says making English the official language of the United States government will help unify the country and save taxpayers money.
Rookie Congressman Paul Broun (R-Georgia) has introduced the “English the Official Language Act of 2008,” which states that “no person has a right” to receive federal documents or services in languages other than English. The legislation is identical to a companion Senate measure sponsored by Senator Jim Inhofe (R-Oklahoma).
Although Senator John McCain (R-Arizona) and every major Democratic presidential candidate voiced opposition to the legislation last June during debates on CNN, Broun contends there is widespread support for the bill across the country. More from OneNewsNow
The article further states:
The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) estimates it costs taxpayers yearly between $1 billion and $2 billion to provide language assistance under a Clinton-era executive order. That order created an entitlement to services provided in languages other than English.
We should call our congressmen and demand they support Rep. Broun’s bill. We are an English speaking country – period. If you want a drivers license or even to participate in any of the government’s “gimme” programs, learn English.
