Cargo thefts shift into high gear

Few would pause to consider the contents of two orange aluminum tractor trailers rumbling along the 380-kilometre stretch of highway from Sudbury to Toronto. Inside, the six-metre long containers appeared to be lined with dirt.

But to the organized bandits who hijacked the truck in July, 2007, it was 40 tonnes of nickel sinter, a metal used in the making of such things as electrodes for fuel cells, and worth $2-million.

The truck driver was found bound and gagged in the back of a car in a commuter parking lot near Guelph. Police located the containers without a trace of powder and the tractor was burned out on the side of a road. The case remains unsolved.

Cargo thieves will take anything — a load of bubblegum, chicken beaks and feet, wedding dresses. Last weekend, someone stole a tractor trailer full of eggs from a Mississauga yard. The empty truck was recovered in Scarborough yesterday.  More HERE

What IS the street value of a truckload of chicken beaks????

On a more serious note, because this is such a serious subject, the trucking industry has changed dramatically over the years and the highways are a very dangerous place to work and live.  Not long ago, we posted an original piece, Firearms and Big Trucks – Myth Busted.  The above article only furthers my point – drivers in the US should be able to carry a legally owned and registered firearm for protection.

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists,

Thanks to The Captains America for sharing this with us:

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists, supporters, et al:

We have stuck together since the late 1950’s, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right, so let’s just end it on friendly terms. We can smile; slate it up to irreconcilable differences, and go on our own ways.

Here is a model dissolution agreement:

Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement.

After that it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes. We don’t like redistributive
taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to all the liberal judges and the ACLU.

Since you hate guns and think guns cause crime, we’ll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA, and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore, and Rosie O’Donnell (you are however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move them).

We’ll keep the capitalism, your hated greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart, and Wall Street and ANWAR. You can have your beloved homeless, hippies, and illegal aliens. We’ll keep Alaskan Hockey Moms, CEO’s, and Rednecks. We’ll keep the Bibles and you can have ABC,CBS,CNN,NBC, Entertainment Tonight and Hollywood.

You can make nice with Iran, Palestine, and France, and we’ll retain the right to invade places that threaten or harm us or our allies. You can have the peaceniks and war protestors. When our allies or way of life are under assault, we’ll provide them job security.

We’ll keep our Judeo-Christian Values. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, and Shirley McClain. You can keep the U.N., however we will no longer be paying the bill. We’ll keep the SUV’s, pickup trucks, and luxury cars. You can have every Subaru Station Wagon you can find.

You can banter heath care is a right and give it to everyone, if you can find any practicing Doctors like Howard Dean if they’ll donate their time and do it for free.

We’ll continue to believe healthcare insurance is an individual responsibility and more important than spending all of ones money on lifestyle.

We’ll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem.  I’m sure you’ll be happy to substitute Imagine, I’d Like to Teach The World To Sing, Kum Ba Ya, or We Are the World.

We’ll practice trickle down economics, and you can continue to give trickle up poverty your best shot.

Since it often so offends you, we’ll keep our History, our Name, and our Flag.

Would you agree to this? If so please pass it along to other likeminded patriots, and if you do not agree just hit delete and hang on.

In the spirit of friendly parting, I’ll bet you ANWAR, YOU’LL NEED IT, on who will be crying for whose help in less than four years.

God Bless America!

Big Brother’s new target: Tracking of all firearms

By Drew Zahn
© 2009 WorldNetDaily

U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill., is hoping to pass a firearm-licensing bill that will significantly rewrite gun-ownership laws in America.

Among the more controversial provisions of the bill are requirements that all handgun owners submit to the federal government a photo, thumb print and mental heath records. Further, the bill would order the attorney general to establish a database of every handgun sale, transfer and owner’s address in America.

The bill claims its purpose is “to protect the pubic against the unreasonable risk of injury and death associated with the unrecorded sale or transfer of firearms to criminals and youth.”   More HERE

Citizen Concealed Carry Concerns

Firearms Contributor

In my column last month, I talked about some of the trends in the firearms industry and how they affected both individuals and their agencies. Interest in concealed carry is another area that has seen a significant increase in activity by ordinary citizens, presumably because of both the current economic situation and the political climate. People are concerned about a perceived increase in crimes of opportunity, as well as more aggressive behavior by criminals. Applications for concealed carry licenses in Florida, for example, have sky-rocketed and firearms safety training classes generally fill up rapidly. Many people tell me that they are getting their carry permits while they can, in anticipation of the need to carry more as times get tougher.

Overall interest in concealed carry has been increasing throughout the country as more and more states adopt some form of shall issue concealed carry laws. At last count, 38 states now have laws that allow concealed carry by anyone who is not disqualified by some particular problem in their background. These are usually referred to as shall issue states. 10 states still have discretionary issue laws, but in some of these states there are few, if any, permits actually granted. There are two states, Illinois and Wisconsin, that do not have any provisions for lawful concealed carry. More HERE

National Parks to Allow Right-to-Carry

The U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI), through the National Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, has announced the final amended version of its changes to rules on carrying of firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges.  DOI’s move will restore the rights of law-abiding gun owners who wish to transport and carry firearms for lawful purposes on most DOI lands, and will make federal law consistent with the state law in which these public lands are located.  NRA led the effort to amend the existing policy regarding the carrying and transportation of firearms on these federal lands.

“Today’s announcement by the U.S. Department of the Interior brings clarity and uniformity for law-abiding gun owners visiting our national parks,” said NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox.  “We are pleased that the Interior Department recognizes the right of law-abiding citizens to protect themselves and their families while enjoying America’s National Parks and wildlife refuges.”   More from the NRA

Secret dangers about Obama

SIOUX CITY — Barack Obama’s secret dangers include:

1. His infatuation with the U.N. He believes the U.N. is the solution to all the world’s problems and our sovereignty must be subjected to their control, then the world would become a heaven.

2. His desire to reduce our military strength and destroy all our nuclear weapons. Though our enemies amass nuclear weapons, he wants to diminish our strength.

3. His defense of the Treaty of the Seas. The treaty would grant the U.N. absolute control of 70 percent of the earth’s surface located under the oceans. They would control and regulate all activity on, in and below the water’s surface and would own all the oil and mineral rights therein.

4. His advocacy of the Global Poverty Act whereby he would force a huge tax upon prosperous nations to subsidize the poorer nations often suppressed by ruthless dictators. Price tag: an extra $2,000 from every individual in the USA.

5. His Socialist belief is that the government has the right and obligation to steal from the wealthy through exorbitant taxation to provide giveaways for pet social programs.

6. His “common sense” anti-gun policy — which lacks common sense. In spite of his Second Amendment rhetoric, his voting record shows he doesn’t believe we should have a readily available gun for self-defense. — William Tucker   From the Sioux City Journal
