COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – A federal judge in Ohio has ruled that counties must allow homeless voters to list park benches and other locations that aren’t buildings as their addresses.
U.S. District Judge Edmund Sargus also ruled that provisional ballots can’t be invalidated because of poll worker errors.
Monday’s ruling resolved the final two pieces of a settlement between the Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless and Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner.
The coalition agreed to drop a constitutional challenge to Ohio’s voter identification law until after the Nov. 4 election. In return, Brunner and the coalition agreed on procedures to verify provisional ballots across all Ohio counties.
The coalition was concerned that unequal treatment of provisional ballots would disenfranchise some voters. From the Columbus Dispatch
Questionable voter registration tactics reached a new low when one couple received a form for “Princess Nudelman” – a dead goldfish.
After more than 1,000 incidents of voter problems at her office in Lake County, Ill., County Clerk Willard Helander is saying enough is enough.
She called for reform of the voter registration process Friday after several forms contained fictional addresses and names of dead people and pets. More from WorldNetDaily
Pushed to meet daily quotas and bullied by bosses if they didn’t, Ohio ACORN workers faked voter registrations, signed up people more than once, and even paid off registrants to keep from being fired, its canvassers told The Post. “Every day, there was pressure on us. Every single day,” said Teshika Elder, a Cleveland single mom of three who worked for ACORN this summer. “We had meetings every morning where they’d go over your quota; they’d yell at you if you were low,” said Elder, 21. “They’d sit us down and say if you didn’t do better, they’d suspend you. They’d say, ‘Try harder next time,’ [and] if you didn’t get it, you’d be fired.” More from NYPost
The investigation into ACORN has revealed that 59 separate convicted felons took jobs this summer registering voters.
In other words, they took jobs taking your private information.
“At least one individual was convicted of identity theft, and was serving time on an identity theft related conviction. And I believe there may be others,” said Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller. Full article here
ALBANY, GA (WALB) – There are allegations of voter fraud, as a Dougherty County family claims the vote of a mentally challenged relative was stolen.
They say the adult day rehab program where Jack Justice attends took him to vote, without the family’s permission. What’s worse is Justice says the person helping him wouldn’t cast the ballot for his choice for President.
Jack Justice has been voting since he turned 18. Typically his family takes him to their neighborhood precinct. This time Primus Industries, his adult day rehab program, took him to vote. His family was shocked, but what shocked them more was that Jack claims that his aide commandeered his vote.
“They told me to vote for Obama, I said no I wanted to vote for McCain,” said Jack Justice, a voter. Full story here
SEATTLE — An exclusive KIRO Team 7 Investigation discovers the state will send ballots to thousands of convicted felons in the next week, even though many can’t legally vote.
The Secretary of State’s Office fired up a new multimillion-dollar computer in 2006. Its job was to catch, and then cancel, illegal voters.
Well, not all illegal voters.
KIRO-TV recently ran its own data to double check the state’s work. Investigative Reporter Chris Halsne found out the system was set up to ignore the existence of approximately 24,000 convicted felons. More from KIRO-TV
